This will truncate the first six chars. If the file name part you want to truncate changes in size, check out regexp to find, say, the first space in your string. Tname = 'S-0281 AB196C3 View 3.jpg'. WEBINAR: On-Demand. I've seen a few articles that illustrate different techniques used in order to display an ellipses in the path. However, a simpler approach might be to use the new Shell path function: PathCompactPath. This function truncates a file path to fit within a given pixel width by replacing path components with ellipses.

Does Windows save logs somewhere that shows folder names / file names? Probably it doesn't and my question is a long shot - but I recently toasted a drive, and it had many folders and files which I have little memory of. I also never used one of those nice apps that makes a list. Any help appreciated. Much obliged. Tt |

When trying to copy files around a network drive I get the error an error that says the copy operation fails and generates a message that states that the path (file name) is too long. The message also suggests that I shorten the file name and try to copy again. The problem is I have hundreds of files and folders that have really long names and need a script to cut the lengths of all of these so roughly 100 characters (they do have spaces in the names as well as parenthesis). I just want to shorten everything that is longer than 100 characters down to 100 characters. I need to make sure the file extensions are not removed or changed either. I am not very strong with PowerShell so all help is appreciate.
